The difference between the toy poodle and the miniature poodle
This is a recurring question for us breeders.
According to the FCI standard, the poodle is divided into 4 sizes, depending on the height measured at the withers of the adult dog, so the measurement must be taken when the dog has reached at least one year of age and by an expert judge using a measuring instrument called a cynometer.
The toy poodle has a height at the withers that ranges from 23 cm to 28 cm, while the miniature poodle has a measurement at the withers that ranges from 28 cm to 35 cm.
How can this measurement be taken: the withers in quadrupeds is the highest point of the back; between the neck and the trunk it is located in the area where the neck and shoulder blades meet, and is used to measure the height of the animal.
Clearly, a different height at the withers is also normally associated with a different structure and a different bearing.
The Miniature Poodle
The miniature poodle has a more robust structure and is a more versatile dog that can adapt to more situations in serving its human reference, to go on excursions in the mountains, for example it can have long periods of resistance to more demanding days. Furthermore, in its traits it represents the breed more, because the breed typicality in the dwarf is manifested in a more visible way.
The Toy Poodle
The Toy Poodle is the most requested dog, because being smaller in size compared to its neighbor in size, people have an easier time taking it everywhere even on planes on flights; in fact, on flights a maximum weight including the carrier of 7 kg is required and often the dwarf does not fit into these parameters, which is why the Toy is requested by people who love to travel and move. It is a dog that if it is well selected has the same characteristics as the dwarf that can easily go on long walks and follow its human reference everywhere usually. However, the Toy Poodle precisely because it remains smaller can be more structurally fragile compared to the Dwarf Poodle, which represents more the typicality of the breed because they are seen more in its expressiveness in its movement and its structure the poodle breed also in character.
